If you mean build your own control you will simply be overriding the login control with your own look. They are basically the same thing with you adding things you feel is needed.
Maybe you want address email etc fields.ASP.NET 2.0: Login Control or Customized Login Form?
Make a custom login form because you will be able to customize it according to your requirments.
